Extremists

Is domestic terrorism a threat to the Games? It is well known both in Greece and abroad that we have made huge steps. We can state officially that we have dismantled organizations that plagued the country for years, a fact noted in international reports. Don’t forget that Greece has the lowest crime rate in the European Union, according to official Europol and Interpol reports. Yet Australia published a travel advisory warning those who want to visit Greece. I said that was exaggerated and extreme. It clearly does us an injustice. Has there been any progress in the investigation following the bomb attack in Kallithea? Is this something completely new or the remnants of older organizations? Is there a clear picture? The investigation is making progress. The only thing I can say with certainty is that the explosions at the police station in Kallithea have no connection with fears abroad. These are strictly of local origin. But they were carried out at a very sensitive moment when our country is in the international spotlight. At a time when all Greek forces are working hard to realize the dream of holding the best Olympic Games ever, a group of extremists made what amounts to a stab in the back.
