Dead official allegedly given senior health job

In what appears to be more of a bureaucratic bungle than a matter of faith in its powers of resurrection, the Ministry of Health has appointed a dead official to a senior administrative position, according to claims made public yesterday. The Athens News Agency quoted the former head of the Regional Health System (PSY) of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Stratos Hasapis, as saying a former deputy general manager of the National Health System, Maria Lepidi, has been posthumously made a PSY board member. Lepidi died in May 2003, while the new board was formed after the March elections. Hasapis said the board position had been made available after Lepidi’s death, and blamed the mixup on the lack of experience of new officials appointed to the Ministry of Health.
