After a number of inspections it had conducted from November 2000 up until a month ago, the property service observed that before planting his watermelons, Alexandropoulos carried out a number of activities on the beach at Zacharo in the Peloponnese. These included: – Digging ditches alongside the dirt road that leads to the beach. – Leveling part of the public land and covering it with inert matter, such as gravel. – Leveling the sand dunes and cutting down shrubs. (Local residents claim that he also cut down cedar trees.) – Renting a hectare of land on which to grow watermelons.
