New damning reports from health inspectors

As a prosecutor was yesterday allotted the investigation into claims that residents at the Athens Old Age Home were subjected to clinical trials without their written consent, Health Ministry inspectors presented judiciary officials with damning reports on two hospitals. The head of the Athens court of first instance prosecutors handed the retirement home file to prosecutor Spyros Mouzakitis, who is to determine what further action should be taken on the allegations, which were set out in a report by Health Ministry inspectors. Further Health Ministry inspections have reportedly found evidence of extensive misconduct on the part of officials at the Thessaloniki AHEPA and Thebes hospitals. At the AHEPA, the irregularities concerned AIDS medication, with prescriptions for the highly expensive drugs allegedly forged or, in some cases, issued to dead patients.
