11 of 24 EP seats go to ND

With almost all (99.13 percent) of the votes counted yesterday, New Democracy had won 43.06 percent, PASOK 34.03 percent, the Communist Party 9.46 percent, Synaspismos Left Coalition 4.15 percent and the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) 4.11 percent. New Democracy won 11 of Greece’s 24 seats in the 732-member European Parliament, a record for a Greek party made more notable by the fact that Greece’s EP members have been reduced from 25 to 24 following the EU’s latest enlargement. PASOK was second with eight seats, followed by the Communist Party with three and Synaspismos and LAOS with one each. Greece’s members of the European Parliament are: New Democracy: Yiannis Varvitsiotis, Antonis Samaras, Antonis Trakatellis, Giorgos Dimitrakopoulos, Costis Hadjidakis, Rodi Kratsa, Yiannis Glavakis, Maria Kassiotou-Panayiotopoulou, Giorgos Papastamkos, Nikos Vakalis and Manolis Mavromatis; PASOK: Mary Matsouka, Stavros Lambrinidis, Mariliza Xenoyiannakopoulou, Stavros Arnaoutakis, Katerina Batzeli, Panos Beglitis, Evangelia Tzambazi and Nikos Sifounakis; The Communist Party: Thanassis Pafilis, Giorgos Toussas and Diamanto Manolakou; Synaspismos Left Coalition: Dimitris Papadimoulis; LAOS: Giorgos Karadzaferis.
