Thessaloniki trash being cleared after snow halts collection

More than 500 tons of garbage remained uncollected from street dumpsters around Thessaloniki in northern Greece due the heavy snowfall in recent days.

According to reports, municipal cleaning staff began the arduous task on Monday of clearing the streets of the snow, which disrupted traffic, and the overflowing rubbish.

Authorities said the city should be cleaned up by Wednesday.
