Athens holds another pitfall for Mexicans

Mexico’s Olympic media contingent is having a hard time in Athens. After six Mexican TV journalists were detained by police last week – and two allegedly assaulted – for filming without permission in restricted areas, two TV cameramen fell victim to the first widely publicized robbery by confidence tricksters ahead of the Games. Police on Saturday said the two accredited cameramen were relieved of 1,700 euros on Friday evening in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri by three men posing as security agents. The Spanish-speaking robbers drew up in a car to the Mexicans, who work for the Azteca TV channel, as they walked on Rizari Street, and introduced themselves as agents looking for Colombian drug merchants. The cameramen surrendered their purses for inspection, only to discover later on that the cash had been stolen.
