Traffic ban in Athens due to cycling race
Traffic will be banned in central Athens between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. today and between noon and 8 p.m. tomorrow when the Olympic cycling road race will be under way. The race starts at Kotzia Square and traces the following route: Athinas, Stadiou, Aeolou, Patission, Alexandras, Ippocratous, Academias, Kanari, Patr. Ioakeim, Irodotou, Spefsippou, Glykonos, Xanthippou, Cleomenous, Rogakou, Sarantapichou, Paligennesias, Koniari, Mercouri, Anapiron Polemou, Souidias, Gennadiou, Vas. Sofias, Vas. Amalias, Dion. Areopagitou, Ap. Pavlou and Ermou streets. During the ban, motorists will not be able to access the above roads, and will not be able to stop or park along the cycling route, nor on intersecting roads. Traffic police are expecting greater congestion in the city center from Monday when many Athenians are expected to have returned from their holidays.
