First time since AD 393…

Officials in Athens might worry about less-than-full stadiums in the first few days of the 2004 Olympics, but yesterday, on the day that the modern Games returned to the place of their birth in Olympia, some 15,000 people packed the area set aside for them. The ancient stadium resounded with the sounds of official competition for the first time since AD 393. And for the first time, women competed.
