WWII bomb found at Syntagma Square

Bomb disposal experts shut down and evacuated a part of Syntagma Square in downtown Athens on Tuesday in order to safely remove a World War II bomb.

The mortar shell was discovered on the corner of Nikis and Ermou streets – across the square from Parliament – by workers with the Athens Water and Sewerage company who were digging in the area.

Experts need to determine whether the bomb is still active before removing it.
