Athens 2004 sees red at blue take on Games
Stung to litigation by headlines such as «go for a Sexathlon gold» and «2004 seconds of ecstasy,» the Athens 2004 Olympic organizing committee has sought a ban on circulation of a soft porn magazine. In a suit tabled at an Athens court of first instance Wednesday, organizers demanded withdrawal of August’s issue of the Greek Playboy magazine, whose racy take on the Olympics was described as «a brutal insult» to the Games. Showing concern for sensibilities of international sports officials in town for the Games, Athens 2004 also complained the issue «coincides with the presence in Greece of the members of the International Olympic Committee.» Playboy sports headlines such as «Gianna’s wild Rogge ‘n Roll» and a cartoon featuring the five-ring Olympics logo composed of condoms.
