Poll finds spectators are content

Despite dire forecasts, spectators are enjoying the Athens Olympics, according to the results of a poll conducted by the Games organizing committee and released yesterday. A survey of 1,025 people who attended events at the main Olympic complex, Hellenikon, Faliron, the Schinias rowing center and the Nikaia, Galatsi and Ano Liossia indoor stadiums during the first week of the Olympics found more than 90 percent were happy with security, assistance by venue personnel and volunteers, and quality of the events they had seen. Satisfaction levels were slightly lower (81.8 percent) as far as the quality of public transport was concerned. Some 85 percent of the spectators polled said they had got to the venues by public transport – 29.4 percent by bus, 24.2 percent by metro, 16.8 percent by rail, 8.2 percent by tram and only 5.2 percent by taxi. Most of the foreign spectators polled (56.3 percent) said they had come to Greece for the Olympics alone, while 37.2 percent said they also wanted to see the country.
