A Patras teenager was charged yesterday with pushing an old woman to her death in the city’s harbor, reportedly after she criticized his fishing technique. Nineteen-year-old Giorgos Manes confessed to having pushed the woman into the water «for a petty reason» on Thursday night, according to a Merchant Marine Ministry announcement. The elderly woman, whose identity and precise age were still unknown by late yesterday, was found drowned in the harbor shortly later. The ministry said Manes had been taken in for questioning and confessed to the crime. He was charged with murder yesterday. According to an Athens News Agency report, Manes told port police he had been fishing on the quay and pushed the elderly woman into the sea after she made fun of the fact that his lines kept snapping.
