‘Giving is fulfilling’
Costas Papioannou, 42, father of two children and a Greenpeace volunteer, is skeptical. «The Games volunteers had the best intentions and I think they did something for all. «But I’m afraid that Greeks get fired up easily then it just fizzles out. I don’t believe it at all likely that volunteerism will take off in Greece. «If only people gave a little of their time just to get to know about other types of volunteer work, perhaps things might change. «I advise prospective volunteers to think of what field they would like to make a contribution in and to make a telephone call to the appropriate organization. «They have to take the first step on their own. The rest is easy. I have very little and very precious free time. But believe me, giving is fulfilling.»
