Murder suspect turns himself in

A 53-year-old man who was wanted in connection with the murder of his wife and her lover turned himself in to police in Thessaloniki last night. The double murder was committed earlier in the day on the Halkidiki peninsula. According to sources, Vassillis Kambouris, a Gypsy, allegedly shot his 33-year-old wife, Mile, and her 19-year-old lover, an Albanian man, with a shotgun after finding them together in the bedroom of his house in the village of Platanohori. The Albanian was identified only as Alter. The married couple’s two daughters, aged 9 and 4, are thought to have witnessed the murders. Kambouris took the girls with him after fleeing the house. Police say Kambouris walked into the Evosmou police station in Thessaloniki with his lawyer and the two girls and gave himself up. The children were not hurt, according to police.
