Man held for beating his girlfriend to death
A man was arrested on Saturday in northern Greece on suspicion of having bludgeoned his girlfriend to death with a stone, following a heated argument. Police in Katerini, some 70 kilometers (44 miles) southwest of Thessaloniki, say the 35-year-old suspect, whose name was not made public, confessed to the murder shortly after his arrest early on Saturday morning before leading them to the spot where he said the murder took place. The two lovers met in the center of the Katerini – close to the local police station – for a date on Friday night, but became engaged in a squabble after the suspect made a jealous scene. Police say the suspect attacked the 35-year-old woman, hitting her repeatedly over the head with a stone. She suffered several skull fractures, which proved fatal.
