Car plunges take 7 lives over weekend

Seven people, including three schoolboys, were killed over the weekend in two separate road accidents in which cars plunged from considerable heights. Four youths died on the island of Lesvos early yesterday following a drinking binge when their speeding car veered off the road linking the villages of Kalloni and Petra and fell into a five-meter-deep ditch. The victims were identified as Stelios Doumanis, 22 – who was driving the car – Panayiotis Chios, 17; Efstratios Tzinis, 16; and Athanassios Loukas, 16. All four had been drinking in bars in Kalloni and Mytilene, and were going home when the car crashed. On Saturday, three people were killed and a fourth was seriously injured when their car fell into a 100-meter-deep ravine on the road between Elassona and Kozani in northern Greece. The identities of the victims and the circumstances of the crash were still unclear yesterday.
