Police unionists, joined by firefighters and coast guard officers, demonstrate in central Syntagma Square yesterday, demanding the government keeps its pre-election promise to increase their basic pay from 720 to 860 euros and asking for their jobs to be categorized as hazardous. Union leaders, who later met with Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis, said he promised to meet some of their demands within a month.
