Three schoolbus drivers arrested

Three schoolbus drivers were arrested in Maroussi, northern Athens, yesterday on suspicion of traffic violations that included driving vehicles with false number plates and not having a valid driving license, police said. Two of the drivers are alleged to have been driving buses – with primary school children aboard – that had no insurance papers and no journey logbook. Traffic police say one of the buses was displaying false number plates and the other a number plate belonging to a car. One of the drivers is alleged to have been driving without a license after having it revoked for surpassing the maximum permissible number of traffic violation points. The third driver was arrested on suspicion of charging high school students to transport them in his nine-seat minivan. All three drivers appeared in a misdemeanor court while the two buses were impounded.
