A Christie’s auction…
A Christie’s auction house employee in London displays a paperback-sized, newly discovered painting by the 16th century Cretan artist Domenikos Theotocopoulos, or El Greco (1541-1614), yesterday. ‘The Baptism of Christ,’ which was found in a brown envelope during a routine valuation in western Spain last year, will be auctioned at a sale of Old Master pictures in London on December 8. It is estimated to sell for between 400,000-600,000 pounds (577,000-866,000 euros). The work was probably painted after 1568.
