Police net web porn merchants

Following an eight-month investigation, officers have arrested four Greeks on suspicion of running a lucrative pornographic website that featured photos of unsuspecting members of the public shot in hotel rooms, beaches and even clothes shops, police said yesterday. Officers from the special electronic crimes unit started investigating the case after receiving dozens of complaints by young women, many of whom were underage, that the site had displayed photos of themselves that had been taken unbeknown to them. The suspects, one of whom is a nightclub owner, were arrested in Athens and the northern town of Serres. Their names were not made public. Police said the website, which charged viewers a 70-euro annual subscription, encouraged clients to send in their own blue photos and videos by offering a monthly cash prize for the best submissions. The material included images taken inside clothes shop changing rooms, and police are now looking into how that was organized. Police said the site attracted 100,000 daily visits.
