Houses for quake victims
Prime Minister Costas Simitis yesterday attended a handover ceremony of 39 new houses built for people who lost theirs in the September 7, 1999, earthquake in Athens. They were the last of a batch of 163 such units. The 5.9-Richter quake left 143 people dead. The houses are in Ano Liosia, western Athens, one of the areas hardest hit by the quake, where the municipality is building some 1,300 units on the site of those destroyed in the quake.
