The only taxis to be seen…

The only taxis to be seen on the streets of Athens yesterday were parked outside the cabbies’ union offices. Taxi drivers held a 24-hour strike, demanding a 30 percent fare hike and free access to the capital’s bus lanes, which are designed to accelerate the congested city’s lumbering public transport system. There are some 15,000 taxis in Athens.
