An elderly Athenian crosses Kotzia Square…

An elderly Athenian crosses Kotzia Square in front of the city’s old Town Hall yesterday where municipality workers were busy in the rain erecting a stage for the capital’s New Year’s Eve celebrations tomorrow night. The section of Athinas Street that passes in front of the square, between Sophocleous and Lycourgou streets, has been closed off to traffic until after the party. Municipal officials have promised a lavish display of 2005 fireworks, as well as a concert featuring singers Dionyssis Savvopoulos, Nikos Portokaloglou and Giorgos Margaritis. There is also a series of events running until January 6, focused on central Syntagma, Omonia and Kotzia squares, and outside the Zappion Hall.
