Judge in trouble over checks, IKA
A middle-ranking judge has been referred to the Supreme Court to face disciplinary charges of incompetence and misconduct that included a bid to get his wife off the hook for issuing dud checks, judicial sources said yesterday. The court’s plenary session will examine whether the court of first instance judge – whose name has not been made public – should be thrown out of the judiciary. This followed an investigation prompted by a TV program claiming that a group of corrupt judges had been fixing trials and illegally securing convicts’ early release. Apart from the alleged incident with the checks, the judge in question is accused of having defrauded the state Social Security Foundation (IKA) out of due contributions by claiming to have worked himself on the construction of his house – which also violated building regulations.
