Health Ministry looks into bio-warfare risk

A Health Ministry committee has been activated to evaluate the potential risks to the population from exposure to chemical and biological warfare, Health Minister Alekos Papadopoulos said yesterday. Papadopoulos, responding to a question on the likelihood of refugees seeking asylum in Greece in the event of a war in the Middle East that could result from the terrorist attack on the US, said that the threat of chemical or biological warfare utilizing the implements of modern technology was far greater than an influx of immigrants. There is no reason for panic, since the committee is being mobilized in the same way as in most other European countries to draw up an action plan as a purely preventative measure, he said.
