The new ambassador
Charles P. Ries presented his credentials to President Costis Stephanopoulos on January 11 and officially assumed his duties as United States Ambassador to Greece. A career diplomat since 1977, who recently served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Ries has specialized in investment and trade issues. His posts have included London, Brussels and Ankara. He is married to Marcie Berman Ries, the US Ambassador in Tirana, and they have two children. Ries holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Johns Hopkins University.
