Focus to be placed on training, at long last?

The National Center for Public Administration and Local Government is working on a new plan to improve human resources in public administration. As General Secretary Giorgos Voutsinas told Kathimerini, training public servants now takes priority. For that to be effective, the shortcomings and needs of each service must first be traced. This will be investigated by the services’ own training departments which will be trained for that purpose by the center. In order to clear away any obstacles caused by the current system, an agreement on training has been signed with the public servants’ union ADEDY, which acknowledges the urgent need to modernize public administration. The agreement includes the provision that training must be taken into account in staff promotions. As part of the effort to restructure the National Public Administration Center, this year for the first time, the National School of Public Administration (ESDD) will start operating. The curriculum of the ESDD will also be thoroughly overhauled, and a new teaching staff register and graduates’ career department will be created.
