Lawyer disciplined for snitching on colleague
The Athens Bar Association has banned a lawyer from practicing for three months after he denounced a colleague to the Economy and Finance Ministry for not giving one of his clients an invoice, sources said yesterday. The association’s disciplinary council decided the unnamed lawyer had engaged in «behavior unbecoming of his profession» after it confirmed he had twice written to the ministry reporting that a colleague, whose name was also not made public, had not provided a client with an invoice for services that he had provided. Tax officials verified the charge. The council said the lawyer’s conduct went against the profession’s code of ethics, which demanded that solicitors do not engage in acts which are «generally conceived to bear all the hallmarks of an informant and which reveal a lack of dignity and nobility.»
