Schoolboy kills himself with father’s shotgun

A teenage student from Athens, who had recently told his classmates that he was thinking of committing suicide, shot himself with his father’s shotgun yesterday afternoon. The body of the unnamed 14-year-old was found by his 16-year-old brother at the family’s home in the northern suburb of Maroussi. Education Minister Marietta Giannakou ordered secondary education authorities to immediately investigate the circumstances that led to the boy’s suicide. Police also launched an investigation. The teenager, along with several classmates, was suspended from school for three days on March 28 after they were found writing rude verses about one of their teachers. However, he subsequently took part in a school trip and told several fellow students that he had been thinking of killing himself but his classmates said they had not taken him seriously.
