Some 100 volunteers are working round the clock at the archaeological site of Allianoi – the only Hellenistic era natural hot water spa and a center for healing and hydrotherapy – 18 kilometers northeast of Pergamum (Bergama) in western Turkey. Archaeologists are in a race against the clock to save what they can from the site because the whole area will be submerged under 17 meters of water in November, when a dam at a nearby river is due to be completed.
