Jilted boyfriend admits killing

A prosecutor yesterday brought charges of homicide against a 23-year-old Veria man who has allegedly admitted to killing his 20-year-old girlfriend in a fit of jealous rage four months ago. Relatives of Kyriaki Kousoglou yesterday surged upon Damianos Mouratidis as he was escorted into Veria’s courthouse by police. A scuffle ensued as officers tried to protect Mouratidis from the angry crowd. Mouratidis allegedly broke down during police interrogation on Thursday and admitted to strangling Kousoglou in April after she rejected his overtures to rekindle their relationship. He is alleged to have told police that he «snapped» after discovering text messages from another man on Kousoglou’s mobile phone. Mouratidis’s 40-year-old cousin, who allegedly helped him bury the victim’s body Ôn the banks of the Aliakmon River, was charged with harboring a criminal and desecrating human remains. Mouratidis is due to defend himself before an investigating magistrate on Tuesday.
