The Costa Classica…

The Italian cruise ship Costa Classica docks in Piraeus yesterday after a fire broke out in the ship’s stern near the island of Poros in the Saronic Gulf. The crew managed to put out the blaze shortly after it began in a storeroom at 10.20 a.m. It is not clear what caused the fire. The coast guard sent five patrol boats to provide help. A navy frigate and a Super Puma helicopter were also on hand with assistance. None of the 1,585 passengers and 583 crew was injured but the ship was escorted to Piraeus for inspection.
