Modern slavery
In collecting material for this report, Kathimerini spoke to foreign women who work in Greece as domestics. That included a telephone conversation with a woman from the former Soviet Union. After a conversation lasting just a few minutes, the voice of another woman came on the line, asking in authoritarian tones, «Who is this?» It was the homeowner, who had snatched the phone from her household help and cut off the conversation, making it clear that she would not permit her servant to speak on her mobile phone. Who said the days of slavery were over?
