A Cypriot reservist in camouflage takes part in the ‘Nikiforos 2005’ military exercises yesterday near Larnaca. Cypriot government spokesman Kypros Chrysostomidis complained to the United Nations and the European Union later in the day that Turkish jets violated Cypriot air space during the exercises. According to Cypriot defense officials, four Turkish jets – two F16 fighter jets and two RF-4 reconnaissance aircraft – flew over the island for 45 minutes to gather intelligence about the exercises and to «create tension.» It was the second time in a week that Turkish jets have violated Cypriot air space, the officials said.
