Preparations for the 12-hour task of cooking a giant gyros souvlaki (doner kebab) weighing 1,850 kilos began in Patras yesterday morning, with the ultimate goal of getting taverna owner Costas Dasios into the Guinness Book of World Records. On the way to his record-breaking effort, Dasios sliced the pork meat on the 1.73-meter skewer into 100-gram servings and handed it out to passers-by in the city’s harbor.
