A pedestrian walks through a triangular roadblock formed by taxis in central Athens yesterday, during a 24-hour strike by drivers. The Attica union of drivers demands higher fares for going to and from Athens airport and permission to drive in bus lanes when they have passengers. Their representatives will meet with Transport Minister Christos Verelis today to discuss legislation regarding taxi drivers. The bill calls for taxi companies to be formed, bans multiple fares and introduces a code of conduct for drivers in light of the Athens 2004 Olympics.
