Long job hours, TV leave little time for books

Increasingly longer working hours (and therefore less free time) coupled with too much time watching television are the main reasons people are reading less. The survey found that people on average spend three hours and 24 minutes watching television on weekdays and another three hours and 30 minutes on weekends. Some 86.5 percent of respondents say they watch television nearly every day. Almost everyone (98.8 percent of those polled) aged over 15 watches TV. However, 39 percent of Greeks never read a newspaper, although 57.3 percent listen to the radio nearly every day – two hours and 40 minutes on weekdays and two hours and 15 minutes on weekends. People often listen to the radio while driving.
