Shop employees demonstrate…

Shop employees demonstrate in Thessaloniki yesterday as they hold up signs reading ‘Never on a Sunday’ in protest at the government opening the debate on retail stores trading on seven Sundays per year. Government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos defended the idea – which was criticized by workers, business groups and opposition parties – by arguing that it will not hurt small businesses which have recently experienced solid growth rates. The Development Ministry claims that it put forth the proposal after being inundated by consumers who want to shop on Sundays.
