Bystanders watch a carousel in Syntagma Square in central Athens yesterday. Syntagma will be the city’s main gathering place for the Christmas celebrations. With the arrival of the festive season, authorities have increased checks on food products in the market. Athens prefectural officials said yesterday that they had confiscated 939 kilos of pork and poultry at a meat packager in Kamatero, western Athens, due to it being unfit for consumption. More checks uncovered 673 kilos of lamb at Korydallos Prison which had been illegally stamped regarding its origin.
