Shoppers to join war against unfit food

Authorities are looking to recruit consumers in their fight against unfit food items hitting the market as the Development Ministry said yesterday that it will distribute pamphlets telling shoppers what to keep an eye out for when filling up their shopping carts. The information campaign comes in the wake of state inspection teams discovering more than 5,000 tons of bad food this year that was about to be sold on the market. «We want to develop in consumers the knowledge so that they can demand safe, healthy and quality food,» said Deputy Development Minister Yiannis Papathanassiou. The pamphlets, to be distributed at citizens’ information and service centers (KEP), will list the information that must be marked on food items.
