A boy throws a car tire on a burning fire yesterday as Gypsies at a camp in Iraklion, Crete, protest against a decision by the Public Power Corporation (PPC) to cut off their electricity supply. Scuffles broke out between Gypsies and the police when PPC technicians visited the area to disconnect the wires that had been illegally connected to a streetside power pole. A PPC spokesman said that the makeshift connection posed a threat to their lives.
