Online officers find boy’s suicide pledge
The parents of a 13-year-old who shared with Internet users his intention to commit suicide were alerted to the threat by the electronic crimes squad who read his online diary, Attica police sources said yesterday. It was some two weeks ago that officers noticed the weblog in which the boy said he wanted to kill himself in the second half of January after failing to find a girlfriend and because his parents did not understand him. The child, whose details have not been made public, wrote that he would inform visitors to his website of the method he had chosen to use to kill himself the day before he intended to carry out his suicide. Police discovered the boy’s identity after tracing the source of the blog. They informed the child’s parents and advised them to seek counseling for the boy, which, sources said, they have done.
