During last week’s snowy weather, the City of Athens set the «Athena Estia» program in motion. Teams from the municipality went out into the streets and invited homeless people to come to sit in heated buildings that had been opened for the purpose. If the person did not want to come, they were given sleeping bags and blankets. An extra 500 meals were handed out in addition to the 1,100 provided every day. Other organizations (such as the non-profit Klimakas Center) kept their shelters open around the clock while the cold snap lasted.
