«Television is the basic element that binds our society together, a common ground for all Greeks and it is here that all interests are concentrated,» said Michalis Reppas, a creator of «Treis Harites» («Three Graces»), a series that was a great success. «Television automatically records every moment, with greater or lesser talent. As talent is based on luck, genes… What can I say? What happens on Greek television is testimony to our mentality.» Reppas sees truth as the crucial element. «The criterion for artistic success is the truth contained in a work,» he said. «Vassilis Logothetidis has been canonized because an image of Greeks from that era, with all their inherent contradictions, was crystallized in an artistic image. Some truths from our era could also be crystallized in this fictional world, even though many produce fake truths.» A pose «There must also be some truth in today’s TV shows. I can’t believe we are a nation of mediocrities. I don’t believe in the misery of minimalism. To consider everything worthy of criticism by its very nature just because it was made in Greece is very tiring; it becomes a pose.»
