A giant multi-colored jester…

A giant multi-colored jester was one of many floats participating in a show in the center of Patras on Saturday night marking the beginning of carnival season in the Peloponnesian city. The opening included a production involving some 100 dancers and 14 theatrical stages depicting the history of the city since it was liberated from Turkish rule in 1829. An array of fireworks were also let off. Patras hosts the biggest carnival celebration in Greece. The city is also serving as the cultural capital of Europe for 2006.
