A key figure in the wire-tapping case is Vodafone Managing Director Giorgos Koronias. In a hearing with ADAE, he stated that since March 10 of last year, when he disconnected the wiretap software, he has acted on government advice. Though he spoke on every aspect of the case for two-and-a-half hours, he left many crucial questions unanswered. One thing is certain, a government official told Kathimerini, the government was informed late and Koronias was not given an order to disconnect the software before the authorities were advised, and so the «intruders» were never discovered. «Had such an order been given, I would have resigned,» declared one government official. Koronias acted automatically, as he himself has admitted. It is the first thing a company does when confronted with wiretapping.
