Children look through the charred remains of a Roma settlement that burned down in Votanikos, central Athens, yesterday. The makeshift homes were destroyed after a fire broke out at about 11.30 a.m. The cause of the fire is not known. No one was hurt in the blaze, which quickly spread due to the highly flammable materials in the area and the wooden pallets and timber stockpiled in front of the shelters.
