Death of former Yugoslav leader marks end of a tragic era, ministry says The death of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic «seals a tragic era of tensions, crises and wars that afflicted the Balkans for almost a decade… an era when Milosevic had a central role and responsibility,» the Foreign Ministry said yesterday. But the ministry added, «The major issue in the Balkans today is not the insistence on assessments of the past but the utilization of all potential for building a European future of coexistence, stability and growth for all.» (Page 2) BIRD FLU Six new cases of deadly strain found Six new cases of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu have been found in dead swans in northern Greece, the Agriculture Ministry said over the weekend. The wild birds were confirmed to have had the virus by an EU testing laboratory in Weybridge, England. Since February 11, 32 cases of the H5N1 strain of the virus have been found in Greece. Couple strangled A British couple, Roger and Josephine Johnson, were found strangled to death in their home in Hania, Crete, yesterday, police said. The husband and wife, aged 53 and 52, were found dead by their 32-year-old son. Police said that the ground floor of their home appeared to have been ransacked while the top level was not touched. Psychic arrested A 46-year-old self-proclaimed psychic was arrested in Thessaloniki yesterday after allegedly promising to solve one of her customer’s personal problems for a fee of 41,500 euros. With the use of tarot cards and visions into the future, the woman had gradually siphoned the money from the 55-year-old man from July last year. Police investigations revealed that she had been accused in 2004 of charging another man, aged 34, the sum of 150,000 drachmas (about 440 euros) for similar services. Political explosion A homemade explosive device made of gas canisters exploded yesterday at the offices of New Democracy’s youth organization (ONNED) in Ambelokipi, central Athens, causing minor damage. No one was hurt in the attack, police said.
