Club owner survives multiple gunshots

A nightclub owner from Athens escaped with minor leg injuries after a gunman shot at him some 15 times early on Saturday morning, police said. The victim, 31-year-old Giorgos Anagnostopoulos, was hit seven times in his legs but did not suffer any serious injuries as he was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting, officers said. Anagnostopoulos was shot at about 1.20 a.m. outside his apartment block in Kalogreza, northwest Athens, by a hooded gunman who had been lying in wait, according to police. Officers believe the incident was an attempt to settle scores. Anagnostopoulos was accused in the past of being involved in a protection racket and was linked to an attempted murder in 2000. He was not charged in either case.
